7/2-FSU Writing Samples

Out of the six FSU writing samples. I found "Sing To Me Somehow" and "Knocked Up" to hold my interest the most. I could hardly believe that "Sing To Me Somehow" was an actual account of somebodies life! It felt like I was reading a fictional novel all the way through. Every part of the story was filled with so much emotion and vividness that I could actually sympathize with what was going on. The death, the romance, and struggle within "Sing To Me Somehow" was passionate and descriptive enough to allow me to remain engaged with this memoir until the end.

"Knocked Up" was my second most favored memoir of the six. I found the story to be entirely heartwarming. The authors perspective, being a sixteen year old girl allowed the story to have a very comical, very innocent appeal. Its hilarious the thoughts she was having at the time. I found it easy to relate to this story for at age sixteen a couple of my friends were constantly going through pregnancy scares, actual pregnancies, or abortions. I always found the situation to be gross too. But after growing up and bit I too realized a new baby can indeed become your "everything".

I liked your "Knocked Up" review. I also found it to be heartwarming and funny. I also quoted the sixteen year old Nicole in my own review when she referred to the baby as her "everything"

I also read your Mathis review and I had the same questions as you had at the end of the article. I too believe that his life and his story is interesting enough to be published.

I thought that this was a really good article and it was also very reader friendly. I thought that “Knocked Up” was a really interesting article too. It was a really heart warming story, how the author was going through so much even though she wasn’t even having the baby. I also agree with you when you talked about how comical and innocent of an appeal the author presented. I though that one thing that made her story more reader friendly was the fact that she used cuss words. Some of my old friends had pregnancy scares also, and I can see how it’s not just something that the pregnant girl is constantly thinking and constantly worried about, it’s also the people around her, like friends and family, that are affected by it.

I completely agree with your perspective onthe story. How you compared it to the people you know and what a shock it would be to close to someone experiencing that is so true. I also enjoyed reading these stories as I can tell you did as well. The Matias article i also found really interesting and not a bore to read at all. Im hoping I would be able to get a chance to read someof his work. I agree he has an interesting life and has a unique tale to share. I'm glad we share the same opinion on both of these stories.

After reading all of the FSU writing samples I wrote a reaction on "knocked up" as well because i felt it was heartwarming and funny story. And i too had friend that had pregnancies scares, pregnancies, and abortions so for me as well i believe that this story really highlights what average teens go through today in high school. I believe that you really hit the nail on the head by says how we can easily relate to this. Good job.
